About Me

Urologist with over twenty years of experience gained between the United Kingdom and Italy, I have developed solid expertise in the clinical and surgical management of major urological pathologies, with a particular interest in endourology, minimally invasive surgery, and laparoscopic kidney surgery.

Training and International Career

Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pisa and specialised in Urology at the University of Cagliari, I continued my training with a fellowship in endourology and stone surgery at St Mary’s Hospital – Imperial College London.
During the twelve years spent in the United Kingdom, I had the opportunity to deepen minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of urinary lithiasis. From 2013 to 2022, I was a Consultant Urologist at the Royal Derby Hospital, directing the Stone Centre for nine years, a regional reference center for the treatment of urinary lithiasis. In these years, I further perfected techniques such as percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and flexible ureterorenoscopy (RIRS) and laparoscopic kidney surgery.

Return to Italy

Having returned to Italy in 2022, I am currently a medical director at ARNAS G. Brotzu in Cagliari, where I carry out extensive clinical and surgical activities, with a primary interest in endourology but also involved in renal transplant programs and robotic surgery. I also deal with laparoscopic kidney surgery and general urology.

Academic Activity

Since 2024, I have been a contract lecturer at the University of Cagliari, responsible for Urology teaching for students of Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, and Medical Radiology, Imaging and Radiotherapy degree courses.

Services

Outpatient Consultations

Complete clinical evaluations are performed: first consultations (30 minutes) and follow-up consultations (20 minutes). In case of referral for surgical intervention, various aspects including results, possible complications, postoperative hospital stay, etc., will be discussed in detail.

Instructions for the first consultation

💽 It is recommended to bring all available clinical documentation, including laboratory test reports, radiological reports, and any medical records. This allows for a complete and accurate evaluation of the clinical picture.

⚠️ Note: during the consultation, it is possible to perform a supplementary ultrasound of the kidneys and bladder or scrotum to complete the physical examination, but this does not replace an ultrasound performed by a radiologist in specialised centers.

Home Visits

By prior arrangement via email, home visits are performed in cases where the patient cannot come to the clinic.

In the request email, please provide a phone number and describe in detail the reason for the visit, to allow for proper planning.

Surgical Procedures

It is possible to perform procedures as a private patient, according to the procedures provided by the hospital and major insurance companies. Below is a selection of executable procedures:

  • PCNL (nefrolitotomia percutanea)
  • RIRS (ureteroscopia retrograda flessibile)
  • TURB (resezione transuretrale di neoplasie vescicali)
  • TURP (resezione transuretrale prostatica)
  • Ureteroscopia diagnostica e operativa

PCNL: Mini-invasive technique that allows the removal of large or complex kidney stones through a small skin access to the kidney. It allows a high success rate even in complex cases, with less trauma than traditional surgery and faster recovery times.

RIRS: Endoscopic procedure that uses flexible instruments introduced through the natural urinary tract to treat kidney and ureteral stones, without incisions. It offers very short recovery times and the possibility of effectively and minimally invasively treating stones even in difficult locations.
